DNS Landscape in Egypt
Egypt's internet market is dominated by WE (Telecom Egypt) and Orange. The country has invested heavily in fiber infrastructure, especially in Cairo and Alexandria. DNS peering is limited, and ISP-provided DNS can be slow during peak usage hours. Many Egyptian users switch to public DNS for better speed and reliability.
Cloudflare and Google both have some Middle Eastern presence but most queries still route through European data centers. This adds baseline latency but public resolvers still outperform local ISP DNS in most cases.
Performance Rankings for Egypt
Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1) averages 20-28 ms from Cairo. Google DNS (8.8.8.8) averages 22-30 ms. Quad9 (9.9.9.9) averages 30-40 ms. WE's default DNS averages 25-35 ms. Orange DNS averages 28-38 ms. Cloudflare has a slight edge because of its efficient European routing from Egyptian ISPs.
Setup Guide
On WE routers, access 192.168.1.1 and find DNS under WAN settings. Use Cloudflare (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1) or Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). On Windows, change DNS in Network Settings.
